Mara Hoffman to the Met

We have more visitors from Australia in town, so last week we ventured out to the Met Museum. First stop: the Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibit. This installation is not quite the crowd pleaser like past Costume Institute showings but still interesting nevertheless, and an obvious testament that everything, everywhere can inspire fashion fashion and style.

I mean, my choice of music is far from the likes of Sex Pistols or The Ramones but teenage me must have been influenced by the genre somehow - the tank top I DIY-ed with a ton of safety pins at 15 was an subconscious artistic interpretation of punk for sure?

Next destination: the Roof Garden - and not just for the view. I had to see Imran Qureshi's splatter painting with my own eyes:

I first wrote about this exhibit in my July Social Calendar post. Whether you see blood splatter out of a scene of Law and Order, or foliage inspired by the Mughals, you can't deny how cool it must have been to paint directly on the 8000-square-foot surface of the rooftop.
Mara Hoffman silk dress (also here) (Edit: Shopbop just released a TON of pretty MH items hereKenneth Cole wedges (sim but I really like this sim pair), Marc by Marc Jacobs 2009 Hilllier bag (this season's version), Hermes clic, green bead necklace worn as bracelet, Ray Ban aviators

I highly recommend watching the short making-of clip below, as well as visiting the museum this summer before the rooftop goes back to boring concrete-grey:

  2. Safety pins were definitely derived from the punk scene, so that made you a teenage punk rocker! How badass! I always knew you were. ; )
