For the last Friday of May, S and I had date night at another Jean George stalwart - ABC Kitchen. I reckon this place serves one of the best brunches in the city and I had been meaning to take S to dinner there for a long time. We strolled down there on that warm spring evening for a late meal.
We started off with a plate of fresh ricotta with strawberry compote. While this is an appetizer, the inherent sweetness meant it could certainly pass for dessert. I am never one to say no to starting my meal with dessert - as long as we end with it too. Since we over-ordered, it took a bit of restraint to not finish off everything on the plate so we could doggy-bag a little with us. While not necessarily "fresh", I can attest to it's deliciousness even a couple days on.
There were two dishes I knew we had to order - the first: a carrot salad - which on the surface seemed ordinary but was anything but. The carrots were roasted with a cumin spice mixture and then topped with fresh greens and citrus, sour cream, avocado and crunchy pumpkin seeds. A simple yet flavourful salad which I hope to replicate at home.
The other non-negotiable order was a serve of the salted caramel sundae which came with candied peanuts and popcorn, whipped cream and lots of chocolate sauce. Jean George is incredibly kind to us in that he makes this dessert available for order all. day. long.
Otherwise we also dined on fried chicken with hot sauce butter and a pizza topped with mushroom and farm egg - most of which we also packed away with us to have as leftovers throughout the weekend. Verdict: I can't wait to return - the dim, sexy lighting and close proximity to home mean this will continue to be a date night favourite. If only reservations weren't so tough to procure.
On to what I wore - which was this Lilly Pulitzer dress. I purchased it during a sample sale late last year and promptly packed it away for the Winter. It felt SO GOOD to be able to finally snip off the tags on Friday. While I sometimes roll my eyes at the pink and green overload, LP sure does produce some fantastic prints (these perfume bottles are killing me) - and their sheath dresses are a godsend for work!

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday - I just had cake for dinner and I am happy as a clam!
That salted caramel sundae with peanuts and popcorn is my kind of dessert! :)
